Father Joe's Gospel of Love

Father Joe Maier and The Human Development Foundation Mercy Centre operate in the slums of Bangkok, work with the poorest of the poor, and turn no child away: Even if the child has AIDS. Most children they serve are extremely poor, abandoned, abused, and some are survivors of trafficking.

Mercy Centre in Action

• Schooling for Slum Children

  The Mercy Centre educates about 250 school children at their Klong Toey facility daily. In addition, over 250 teachers are bussed out to over 60 other poor communities reaching more than 3000 underpriviledged children.

• Hospice Care for Orphans with AIDS

  Approximately thirty children aged 4 to 6 and suffering from AIDS receive housing and full-time loving care at the Mercy Centre.

• Shelters for Poor & Abandoned Youth

  The Mercy Centre has five shelter homes homes serving about 180 children who have no where else to turn. Boys and girls are housed separately.

• Anti-Trafficking and Legal Aid

  The Mercy Centre has several social workers on staff providing outreach services and legal aid to street children.

• Drug Rehabilitation

  Children found with small amounts of drugs are brought to the Mercy Centre for rehabilitation and eventually guided through schooling.

• Providing a Future

  The Mercy Centre's mandate is "Protection, Caring, Education, a Future full of Opportunities."
